AyeTides app good for
I have been waiting for Mr Tides to be ported to the iPod/iPhone! There are a couple of free tide apps, but they require online access, while Aye Tides has its own algorithm and is independent of outside support access, making it much more useful in all the remote places boaters go. I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to access the graph view until I went back to the iTunes Store and reread the description of the features. Duh! Turn it sideways! That had not occurred to me. You might want to incorporate that info into the About text.
This is by far the best tides application out there! Thank you very much for your work in putting this together - well worth the money!
I live near the ocean and constantly use this app to gauge good times to go to the beach. Well designed and I really like that it works while offline.
Easier to use than all the guides and electronicson our boat..love it!
Im surprized that this software is not called iTides. I live near the ocean and have grand kids to entertain. Its always a treat to take them to the beach at low tide and this software fills the bill nicely to help with that. It works well. One nice feature is that I can run it for dates in the future looking for especuially low tides during the daylight hours. If I hold my iPod upright I get information on sunrise and sunset as well as high and low tides. If I lay it on its side I get a graphical chart of high and low tides. Its just great. It does not do away with the need for tide and current tables for the mariner but it is perfect for the grampas, grammas, and their grand kids exploring the coast line. Very compact. A tide table book cant easily fit in a coat pocket, an iPod or iPhone can.
Purchased this to use for tides, moon and sun as I live on the coast and am a photographer. It provides all the info I need but the interface could be a little more refined. It is easy to criticise when the work is done and my comments should not detract from an excellent and useful app at a reasonable price. Great database with every place imaginable and overall clear displays and easy to use. I really like the way the sun and moon cycles are shown graphically on the horizontal display. Some small adjustments as mentioned below would get my 5 stars. - Recommended anyway.
1) The size of the date and time font on the main screen is too small. There is lots of room to have it a little larger as if one scrolls across to the next or previous day the size is good.
2) The icons for the sun and moon are really a little too small too, especially for the moon as the phases are shown, which is really excellent, but are difficult to read.Perhaps put larger icons of these phases on the message that pops up when one touches them.
3) I am often inland where there is no tide data required but I still require sun and moon data. It would be very useful if one could enter long lat and a name of the location and just get this astronomical data without the tides, this would make Aye Tides a killer app for landscape photography.
4) It would be useful to be able to have the option of having the app start in graphic mode with a vertical or horizontal screen as this gives very quick tide info without having to read all the numbers or tilt the ipod to landscape mode for this to appear.
5) It seems that the main data screen should fit easily on the page without being truncated on the bottom giving the need to scroll.
Some bad moments
What a horrible update. Dont do it! It limita the range of date!!!!! Very bad!!!
I am disappointed after paying $10 for this software. Other, free software enables the user to show graphical representations over a 24-hour period, calculate current and show times of maximum and minimum tides. Had I been aware of these limitations I would not have spent the money.
Application useless, the high tide of 1 December 2008 in Venice, Italy was not recognized. The forecasts are clearly based on theoretical data and not on actual data.
After the last update it is not possible to scroll for future dates.
To be fixed please!!!
I just installed this app in my iPad. I am sure that it works just fine but it is an iPhone app. In the iPad, what you get is a small sandbox the size of an iPhone screen with a 2X zoom option that produces and image with very poor resolution.
All in all its a good app, Ive had it since day one. But... Theres alot of wasted space on each page, buttons are very small, men have large fingers... Graphics are poor, I have 20/20 vision, and its still hard to read. Also add more moon info, noaa info, sea bouy, etc... Alot of us professionals who work on the water depend on this app... This app needs a complete overhaul. Coffee break is over, get on it!!!
